What is Inkscape?

Inkscape is professional quality vector graphics software which runs on Windows, Mac OS X and GNU/Linux. This new released was released at  2017-01-01 with this new features:
  • Mesh Gradients are now supported.
  • Many SVG2 and CSS3 properties are now supported (e.g. paint-order, mix-blend-mode). Not all are available from the GUI.
  • The new Object dialog allows to select, label, hide and lock any object in the drawing from a dialog that lists them all
  • Selection sets make it possible to 'group' objects together regardless of document structure
  • Guides can now be locked to avoid accidental movement
  • Several new path effects have been added, among them Envelope/Perspective, Lattice Deformation, Mirror and Rotate Copies
  • There are several new extensions (e.g. a seamless pattern extension) and a new filter (colorblindness simulation) included in the release, many old extensions have been updated or got new features
  • Spray tool and measure tool received a set of nifty new features
  • Interactive smoothing for lines created with the Pencil tool
  • BSplines (and more) are available for the Pen tool
  • Checkerboard background can be used to more easily see object transparencies

It enables professional graphics developers to get the most out of their NVIDIA GeForce and Quadro GPUs on a variety of Linux distributions. This tool supports desktop class GPUs and inherits from the many man-years of investment in OpenGL development tools from the Tegra Graphics Debugger and NVIDIA® Nsight™ Visual Studio Edition.

System Requirements

Minimum supported Operating Systems for Linux Graphics Debugger:
  • Ubuntu v12.04, v14.04, v16.04
  • Redhat v6.5
  • Centos v6.6
Supported Graphics APIs:
  • OpenGL v4.2 - v4.5 core with over 100 extensions
Display Driver:
  • Version 2.0 requires Linux driver version 370.23 or newer

This application deal with images into 3D.

AwesomeBump is a free and open source program designed to generate normal, height, specular or ambient occlusion, metallic, roughness textures from a single image.
The AwesomeBump software is totaly written in Qt cross-platform application framework.
This application come with some features like:
  • convert from normal map to height map,
  • convert from height map (bump map) to normal map,
  • extract the bump from the arbitrary image,
  • calculate ambient occlusion and specularity of image.
  • perspective tranformation of the image,
  • creating seamless texture (simple linear filter, random mode, or mirror filter),
  • generate roughness and metallic textures (different types of surface analysis are available),
  • real time tessellation is available,
  • saving images to following formats: PNG, JPG,BMP,TGA
  • edit one texture which contains different materials
  • add some grunge to your map with grunge texture.
  • mix two bumpmaps togheter with normal map mixer.

Make online sprite with piskelapp.

This website -www.piskelapp.com can be used to create sprites for your games.
Basically, it's an interface with drawings features like:
    - set the drawing tools;
    - set grids;
    - use layers;
    - copy image to all layers;
    - set your size and resize;

News: Godot - new game engine working with Linux, Windows, OSX and consoles.

The last version of Godot Engine Reaches 1.0 come with new features: 
- working simple , flexible and feature rich editor, with tools under multi-platform editor: Linux, Windows and OSX;
- the game result work for your multi-platform : iOS, Android, Desktop Platforms: Windows, OSX, Linux,Web Platforms: PNaCL and consoles: Playstation 3 and Playstation Vita (only with license from Sony); 
- 2D and 3D game development; - GUI library for UI Game Interfaces; 
- Python-based scripting language, designed to make games with C++ API to optimize parts of the game or extend any part of the engine. - you can animate 2D or 3D. - simulate 2D and 3D physics engines; 
First look : I run it , working well. You need to make some settings to export the game.
Working with .obj to import objects . Not working with tff fonts.
Seam to be a lite dizzy , but I saw some good youtube tutorials.

News - Blend4Web framework.

The new framework for authoring and interactive rendering of three-dimensional graphics and audio in browsers is named Blend4Web.
This software let you to creating visualizations, presentations, online-shops, games and other rich internet applications.
The Blend4Web framework is a library for web pages, a Blender addon and some tools integrated tightly with 3D modeling and animation tool Blender.

News : MakeHuman with new features under svn ...

The most great in 3D modeling is modeling human characters.
If you deal with Poser 3D under Windows OS then MakeHuman it's working well under Linux OS.
Now new features comes for us and can be used under svn.
The MakeHuman team tells us :
New feature available in svn (and in the nightly build 6277): the eyebrow library. Just some basic types at the moment, but more complex models will be added in the next weeks.

The new AMD Catalyst - Linux x86 and x86_64

AMD has released a new graphics proprietary driver for Linux.

The new feature of Catalyst 13.4 for Linux supports all Radeon HD 5000/6000/7000 videocards.

OpenGL Driver support for Linux and Windows.

NVIDIA has released a set of OpenGL 4.3 drivers for Windows and for Linux.

The driver support provide beta support for OpenGL 4.3 and GLSL 4.30 on capable hardware.

For Linux, the version number R304.15 is not the same with the drivers for Windows :R305.53.

For OpenGL 4 capable hardware, these new extensions are provided: ARB_compute_shader ,ARB_multi_draw_indirect ,ARB_shader_image_size ,ARB_shader_storage_buffer_object

New 3D Game - Mini Ninjas - Now Playable on Linux via Native Client

The 3D action game Mini Ninjas can now be played on Linux via Native Client.

You have four levels are free in game.

You can unlock more levels by purchasing Core points.

If you want to have very good frame rates with almost no lag use a better video card like : Geforce 9500GT , ATI HD 4650 .

Jpcsp PlayStation Portable emulator

Jpcsp is just one PlayStation Portable emulator. This emulator software allowing you to play your PSP games on a PC. You can take it from here. First , you must have have the JRE - Java on your computer. I use on my Fedora 16 the package : jre-6u27-linux-i586.bin. Also, I use this command to start the emulator:
$ java -Xmx1024m -Djava.library.path=lib/linux-x86 -jar bin/jpcsp.jar
The result is shown in the following screenshot:

Latest version of Blender 3D on Puppy Linux.

For users who use 3D software Blender good news. Beta version 2.5 is now present on Lucid Puppy version 5.2.5.
This distro released in April 2011, brings new improvements.
Here is a screenshot of it:
I've tested it with old Nvidia video card.
I had to install the driver for FX 5200 named "NVIDIA-173.14.25.lupu500k2.6.33.2".
I made ​​this easy with the software "Puppy Package Manager.
Everything went perfectly.

Allegro 5 library for game development.

Allegro 4 and Allegro 5 are cross-platform, open source, game programming libraries, primarily for C and C++ developers.
The Allegro library provides low level routines like input, graphics, midi, sound effects, and timing.
It is cross platform : Windows, OS X, Linux, DOS, and others.
